New Round-the-Clock Breastfeeding Support for Parents
Backed by an £18.5 million investment through the Family Hubs and Start for Life programme, the helpline now provides free, non-judgemental, evidence-based support around the clock—recognising that feeding challenges can arise at any hour.
This extension is part of the government’s wider Plan for Change, which includes opening up to 1,000 Best Start Family Hubs across local authorities. These hubs will give families joined-up support on infant feeding, perinatal mental health, parenting, and more.
Minister for Public Health and Prevention, Ashley Dalton, highlighted the emotional toll of night-time feeding struggles and described the extension as “vital.” The service, run by the Breastfeeding Network and the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers, already supports tens of thousands of families each year. Notably, 89% of callers say they feel more confident to continue breastfeeding after using the helpline.
